The steel projectile body displays good, even ageing throughout, with no signs of post-war modification or interference. Original factory-applied paint remnants remain visible, including the yellow band denoting Armour-Piercing ammunition. The surface shows honest service storage wear consistent with wartime manufacture, with no structural damage. Total length is 13.5 cm

Base

The base cavity confirms this to be a solid AP shot rather than a shell, with no provision for fuze, tracer, or explosive filling. The base remains clean and well-defined, further supporting that this example was never fired.

Markings

Stamped markings include the calibre designation and projectile type, along with the Mark number and clearly legible manufacture date of 5/42. Additional lot and inspection markings remain present, though some are softened through age, as expected.

Historical Note

The QF 2-Pounder anti-tank gun was the standard British anti-tank weapon during the early years of the Second World War and saw extensive service, particularly during the North African campaign. Armour-Piercing solid shot such as this relied purely on kinetic energy to defeat enemy armour and represented the primary anti-tank ammunition used by British forces during 1941–1942, before heavier guns gradually replaced the 2-Pounder.
