Description

This is an original WW2 U.S. Army sandbag, manufactured in heavy cotton duck and clearly marked “Bag, Cotton Duck, Sand” by The Safeguard Corp.

The use of cotton duck construction and this style of printed nomenclature are both consistent with U.S. military production of the 1940s, supporting a WW2-era date despite the absence of a visible year stamp.

Unlike the more commonly encountered plain, loose sandbags, this example features stitched internal sections which help maintain its shape when filled. This more structured construction allowed for neater stacking and more controlled placement in field defences such as gun positions, revetments, and temporary fortifications.

The canvas retains a good, even olive drab colour throughout, with the printed markings still visible and legible, which adds nicely to its display appeal. It remains empty and unfilled, making it ideal for collectors or for display purposes without the weight and mess of sand.

A simple but very representative piece of U.S. WW2 field equipment that displays well and remains an affordable addition to any collection.
