Description

This original WW2 British Air Raid Warden steel helmet is a classic and highly recognisable piece of Home Front Civil Defence equipment, worn by ARP personnel during air raids across Britain.

Air Raid Wardens played a vital role on the Home Front, enforcing blackout regulations, assisting civilians during bombing raids, and helping maintain order during some of the most difficult moments of the war. Their distinctive helmets, often marked with identifying letters, have become iconic symbols of wartime Britain.

This example features the instantly recognisable white “W” to both the front and rear, clearly identifying it as a Warden’s helmet. The paintwork and markings remain strong and well defined, making it a particularly appealing display piece.

It comes with a green adjustable chin strap in good condition, and a white “W” on the back and the front. The “W” is clear, bright and hasn’t been scuffed, though there are light spots of rust mainly on top of the helmet. It also has the liner as well as the top-of-head cushion all intact and in good condition too. It’s clearly dated 1/1940 and to the left of that marked with the makers initials, “FL”.

A genuine and honest wartime example, this helmet displays very well and would make an excellent addition to any WW2 Home Front or ARP collection.
