Description
Original WW2 British Army heavy knitted woollen drawers dated 1944, an increasingly hard to find surviving piece of wartime personal kit in very good condition.
Produced by Atkins Bros of Hinckley, these authentic British military winter drawers were made to provide warmth and comfort in cold conditions, forming an essential but often overlooked part of the everyday soldier’s issue kit during WW2. Constructed in a substantial heavy knitted woollen material, they retain the classic three-button fly front, period utility styling and original waistband loops.
The internal maker stamp remains wonderfully clear and easy to read, showing Size 34, Atkins Bros, Hinckley and the wartime date 1944. Strong readable markings such as these are highly desirable on original textile items, especially garments that were often heavily worn, repeatedly washed and later discarded.
Often referred to today as long johns, pieces like this are ideal for collectors of British WW2 uniforms, mannequin displays, reenactment impressions, or those who appreciate the more personal side of wartime history. Original undergarments of this type are far scarcer than tunics, webbing and standard field equipment.
Condition is very good overall. The fabric remains strong and well preserved with no damage noted. There are no visible holes or tears, the original buttons remain present, and the markings are unusually bold and clear. A superb honest example ready for any serious WW2 British collection.
