Description

An original WW2 British Dura-Glit metal polish tin, retaining its desirable and increasingly scarce “War-Time Pack” marking to the lid. Pieces such as this are a wonderful snapshot of everyday wartime Britain, representing the sort of civilian household and workshop items that would have been found throughout the British Home Front during the war years.

Dura-Glit metal polish was a well-known household product of the era, supplied in tins containing treated polishing wadding used for cleaning and maintaining metal items. Wartime examples are particularly collectible today due to their explicit “War-Time Pack” markings, which firmly place them within the austerity and rationing years of WW2 Britain.

Perhaps most impressively, the original treated polishing wadding still remains inside the tin and even retains the distinctive period metal polish smell when opened — a fantastic surviving detail which adds enormously to the authenticity and display appeal of the piece.

Condition is good overall for age and type. The printed text and graphics remain clear and highly displayable throughout, with honest age-related wear, oxidation and tarnishing to the lid and base consistent with decades of storage. There is a dent present to one side of the tin (see photos), however importantly the paint within this area remains stable, with no major flaking or loss. The lid fits correctly and the piece displays very well overall, particularly considering these wartime tins were everyday utilitarian items rarely preserved with this level of completeness.

A very appealing and atmospheric WW2 Home Front display item with strong shelf presence and genuine period character throughout.
