Description
Original WW2 British “Wallet, Bren Spare, M.G. Mk I” webbing carrier dated 1945, complete with its original shoulder strap and retaining fittings throughout.
A very strong late-war example of specialised British Army Bren gun equipment, this pattern of wallet was intended for the storage and carriage of spare parts, tools, and associated accessories for the Bren light machine gun system. Unlike standard infantry webbing, these specialised carriers are encountered far less frequently today, particularly in such well-preserved condition.
The exterior retains its original wartime stencil marking reading:
“WALLET
BREN 303m
M.G. MK I”
with the marking remaining unusually clear and readable for a wartime webbing item of this type. The interior is also clearly stamped “S.S.1”, “W”, and “AC 1945” alongside the War Department broad arrow acceptance mark.
Condition is very good overall and the piece appears unused or extremely lightly issued, with the webbing remaining clean, structurally strong, and well preserved throughout. All internal dividers, stitched retaining loops, pockets, straps, and fittings remain present, while the original shoulder strap is still attached. The metal fittings retain a good finish with only light age-related wear and storage marks visible. Importantly, the stencil markings remain exceptionally well defined, greatly adding to the display and collector appeal of the piece.
An increasingly difficult-to-find piece of original WW2 British machine gun equipment and an excellent example of specialised wartime webbing.
