An attractive WWII British Mk II steel helmet displaying a striking green and black camouflage finish. The green is particularly appealing and contrasts strongly with the black camouflage areas, giving the helmet an excellent overall appearance.

The exterior shows age and service wear, including areas of paint loss and surface oxidation. Despite this wear, the shell retains its correct shape and has no dents.

Shell & Camouflage

The exterior retains a good amount of its green and black camouflage finish, with natural wear visible across the surface and around the rim.

The inside of the shell has a predominantly black finish. Small remains of green paint can still be seen around parts of the inside lip, although much of this has worn away.

The shell is marked BMB. Further stamped numbers are visible, including 19 and what appears to be a 3, although the complete marking is too indistinct to identify with certainty.

Liner & Chinstrap

The liner is in excellent condition and remains complete, including the cruciform cross pad. It is marked BMB, size 7, and dated 1939.

The khaki chinstrap is also in good condition, showing only minor age-related wear.

Overall

A very attractive British Mk II helmet with an impressive green and black camouflage finish. The exterior wear and oxidation give the helmet plenty of character, while the shell remains free from dents.

Historical Note

British Mk II helmets were normally supplied with a factory-applied painted finish, but additional paint and camouflage were also applied during wartime service. This could be carried out at unit or individual level using available paints, resulting in considerable variation in colours and camouflage patterns. Without provenance, however, it is not possible to establish precisely when or under what circumstances the camouflage on an individual helmet was applied.
