Description
The S.14 (or Seitengewehr 14) was introduced in 1915 and was made to fit the Gew 98 rifle.
The blade on these bayonets are quite substantial, measuring 31cm, with a total length of 46cm including scabbard. The Blade is very clean and in good condition, with a proof stamp on the spine of the blade and a maker’s mark on the ricasso that reads “samson werk”.
The wooden grip plates are in decent condition, showing some light wear and minor indentations, and held in place by two domed head rivets. The rifle retaining button is in good working order and there is also another proof stamp on the rear upper pommel.
The scabbard is the correct type for this bayonet and overall in good condition accept for some light pitting and indentations just above the lower scabbard ball. This bayonet was period painted black as we can see around 70% of it remaining on the scabbard.
overall a very decent bayonet.
