Description
The Indian pattern 1907 MK 1 bayonet is a cut down variant of the British pattern 1907 bayonet, developed specifically for use by the Indian forces. These bayonets were used with the short magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) rifle and saw extensive service in both World Wars.
The blade is in stunning condition with 100% of the blueing remaining. The blade has a false edge along with a factory sharpen, which ends in a perfect tip. Both sides of the ricasso bear lots of markings, including maker “JAC” (Chapman), “FR56” (Factory Re-manufacturer), dates and proof stamps.
The cross guard and upper pommel retain all its blueing and has a functioning rifle retaining button. The light brown wooden grip plates are in perfect condition and held in place by two screw bolts.
The metal scabbard fittings are undented and in good condition with some markings to the lower fitting that read “MDYS 42”. The leather shows very minor wear and is still strong with all its stitching intact. There are some more markings stamped into the leather that I show in a photo.
The bayonet fits the scabbard perfectly.
