Description
This German 3D photo book Der Kampf Im Westen is a later edition book, as noted by the colour of the cover. It documents and glorifies the campaigns in Western Europe. Earlier editions have a red cover, with white writing, both were first published in 1940.
Other notable features aside from the cover colour difference is that the standing glasses have a different colour and frame, in that they are reversed from the earlier red cover edition, which has a black frame. Also, very strangely, there are minor differences in the text. It’s subtle, but it’s definitely there. Comparing both is very interesting indeed, even more so when upon researching BOTH books online, many sources claim both books are identical aside from their covers. We’ve had both books side by side and there are as stated, subtle differences. The running theory is that the beige cover edition, was aimed more at domestic markets or formal presentations. This is very interesting indeed because it proves that Germany saw the value in propaganda – given the small differences. When comparing the photos from both editions, there appears to be no difference.
This particular book has the included viewing glasses, sadly picture number 76 is missing from the collection, but all other photos have been checked and counted. The glasses work flawlessly, and all the text and photos are nice and clear. The book itself has seen some use over the years. Some of the corners have the typical wear of books this age but the actual content inside is in great condition as you can see in the pictures to the right.
