Description

Attributed to the French Alpine regiments (Chasseurs Alpines), this rare First World War trench club is a powerful reminder of the brutal hand to hand combat of the trenches. The Alpine troops were renowned for their toughness and resilience, fighting in some of the harshest conditions of the war, making this weapon even more significant to the story of those men.

The club measures approximately 22 inches long and retains its original leather strap with alloy button (see photos). The head shows reinforcing bands to both the top and bottom, and is profusely studded with hobnails for maximum effect. The crown once carried a steel spike, designed to make the weapon even deadlier in close combat. Although the spike has since been forced down into the head, it is still visible, and a reminder of its intended purpose.

A very collectable genuine French trench club, reminding us of the extreme and brutal side of frontline warfare.
