SKU: 0417M

Added by : Mark Raynsford

Description

An original early SA dagger side hanger, featuring nickel fittings and the desirable long-nose spring clip, commonly referred to by collectors as the “crocodile nose” type. This example reflects early production, typically associated with the pre-RZM period, and is a solid, honest piece that would pair well with an early SA dagger.

Overall

The hanger remains in good, usable condition. The leather is firm and intact, showing honest age and wear throughout, with some surface dryness. The nickel clip and buckle both retain a pleasing, slightly toned patina consistent with age. The long-nose “crocodile nose” clip is an early characteristic and operates as it should, making this a more desirable example compared to later variants.

A good, solid early hanger with for those looking to complete or upgrade an early SA dagger setup.

Historical Note

The SA dagger was introduced in the early 1930s as a symbol of status within the Sturmabteilung (SA). Early production examples featured high-quality nickel fittings before later transitioning to plated fittings under the RZM system from around 1935 onward.

Side hangers such as this were used to suspend the dagger from the belt at an angle. Alternative hanger configurations, including the three-piece hanger, allowed for vertical carry. Early nickel-mounted examples are increasingly sought after due to their association with the initial production period and their higher material quality.
