A very good original example of a German Heer officer’s dagger portepee (dagger knot) from the Third Reich period. Constructed in the traditional silver and grey aluminium bullion style, this example retains its attractive woven finish and correct acorn knot. These portepees were ceremonial dress accessories worn looped around the grip and crossguard of German officer’s daggers during formal occasions and parade wear.

Cord & Strap
The woven strap and cord remain strong and well preserved throughout, with the silver-grey aluminium bullion finish still displaying nicely. There are two small areas of wear to the cord, consistent with the usual contact points seen on examples that have genuinely been fitted to a German Heer officer’s dagger over time. Aside from these honest wear points, the portepee remains in very good condition overall.

Slide & Stem
The slide (Schieber) and woven stem section remain tightly constructed with no major damage or loose sections noted. The interwoven detailing is still crisp and retains a good appearance.

Acorn Knot
The portepee retains its original acorn knot (Kopf), which remains nicely shaped with good detail and weave throughout. The knot shows honest age and handling but no major deterioration.

Overall
A very presentable and original Third Reich period German Heer officer’s portepee with minor period wear. An excellent accessory a German Army officer’s dagger.

Historical Note
German Heer officer portepees were introduced during the early Third Reich period and remained in use throughout WWII. Unlike enlisted men’s troddeln, officer portepees were typically finished in silver aluminium bullion wire and designed to complement formal dress daggers and uniforms.
