Description
Original Imperial Japanese Army Arisaka Type 30 bayonet frog, manufactured from thick, heavy leather and dating to the 1930s to early Second World War period. This example shows clear service wear throughout, consistent with prolonged use, but remains structurally sound and entirely functional. A solid early-period frog displaying honest age and wear rather than damage.
Frog
Constructed from strong, thick leather with original stitching throughout, all of which remains intact. The rear securing strap features the early double-hole configuration and is fitted with an original brass buckle. Both original brass rivets remain in place and undisturbed, showing correct age-related patina.
This combination of brass fittings and heavy leather construction is consistent with early production, prior to the later wartime shift to steel fittings and simplified materials.
The leather shows noticeable service wear, heavier in certain areas, with surface scuffing and edge wear from use. Despite this, the leather remains thick, solid, and structurally strong. A well-used but honest example that still displays well.
Historical Note
The Type 30 bayonet frog was standard issue for Imperial Japanese Army Arisaka rifles and was produced in several variations throughout the 1930s and early war years. Earlier examples are typically characterised by thicker leather and brass fittings, later simplified as wartime production pressures increased.
