Description

Original Imperial Japanese Army Arisaka Type 30 bayonet frog, manufactured from thick, heavy leather and dating to the 1930s to early Second World War period. The leather remains very solid throughout, firm and strong, but still supple enough, showing honest service wear only. There is no cracking, rips, or structural damage.

Frog:
Constructed from strong, thick leather with original stitching throughout, all of which remains intact. The rear securing strap retains two original holes and is fitted with an original brass buckle. Both brass rivets remain intact and undisturbed, showing correct age-related patina. These features are consistent with pre-March 1940 production, before the documented shift to steel fittings and later alternative materials.

A metal star device is present to the lower face of the frog, a feature sometimes encountered on these examples. The star is securely fixed using a split pin to the reverse. You can clearly see this star has been fitted many decades ago, as the leather as aged to the shape of the star.

Overall:
A very strong, original example in solid condition. Displays honest service wear only and remains structurally excellent. A correct leather Type 30 bayonet frog from the 1930s to early WWII period.

Historical Note:
The Type 30 bayonet was introduced in 1897 and remained in service with the Imperial Japanese Army through to the end of the Second World War. Because of its exceptionally long service life, associated equipment such as bayonet frogs evolved over time in response to material availability and wartime demands.
