Original German Luftwaffe 2nd Pattern Dagger Portepee

Description
A genuine German Luftwaffe 2nd pattern dagger portepee, correct in size and specification for the Luftwaffe officer’s dagger. These are often confused with Heer examples, however Luftwaffe portepees are notably shorter and more compact in form, making them correct for the 2nd model Luftwaffe dagger.
Condition
The portepee shows typical period wear, with some age-related use to the cord and finish. The material remains intact and strong overall, with no obvious major damage.
A point worth noting— the sliding knot (the small adjustable section) is still stitched to the lower section. These are typically free-moving, so this is an unusual feature, and something I don’t ever recall seeing before. My guess would be, it is probably a period factory mistake.
Overall
A solid, original Luftwaffe dagger portepee with honest wear, not mint, but still very decent and would pair well with a good 2nd pattern Luftwaffe dagger.
Historical Note
The Luftwaffe dagger was introduced in the mid-1930s for officers of Luftwaffe, under the leadership of Hermann Göring. The portepee was an essential part of the dagger assembly, tied to the grip and used both as a decorative and functional element. Worn suspended from hangers on the officer’s belt, the dagger and portepee together formed part of the formal dress uniform, symbolising rank and status within the Luftwaffe.
