Description
This is an excellent example of the U.S. Army Air Force Type A-1 folding survival machete, manufactured by Imperial Knife Co, Providence, Rhode Island and adopted by the U.S. military in 1942. These machetes were issued in the B-4 emergency bailout kit, usually attached to a parachute harness, and were intended for use by downed airmen who might need to clear brush, cut wood, or build shelter.

Blade:
Heavy curved blade with a bright finish, although, does show some wear.
Handle:
Heavy duty checkered black plastic grips, solid and undamaged, providing a firm hold even in adverse conditions.
Locking Guard System:
When open, the folding guard flips over to lock the blade securely in place. To close, the guard must be released with the small thumb button. When folded, the guard protects the blade edge inside the handle.
Sheath:
Original U.S. issue light brown leather sheath, clearly stamped (Machete with Sheath Type A-1 No.48C3639
Overall, this example remains in very good condition.
