Description

An original WW2 British First Field Dressing, manufactured by S. Maw, Son & Sons Ltd., London and dated July 1944. Still contained within its original sealed khaki cotton wrapper, this is a genuine wartime medical item intended for use by British military personnel during WW2.

First Field Dressings formed an essential part of the British Army’s medical equipment and were carried by individual soldiers for the immediate treatment of wounds in the field. Designed to provide a sterile dressing that could be quickly applied in an emergency, examples such as this would have been issued across all branches of the British armed forces and saw widespread use throughout the war.

The front of the wrapper retains its original printed instructions and contents information, including guidance on opening and applying the dressing. The manufacturer’s details remain visible to the lower edge, identifying the maker as S. Maw, Son & Sons Ltd., London, a well-known supplier of medical equipment during the period.

A particularly appealing feature of this example is that it remains unopened, with the original wrapper and closure cord still intact. Unopened wartime dressings are becoming increasingly difficult to find, especially those retaining clear wartime markings and a visible date. The July 1944 date stamp remains present and perfectly readable, although it is somewhat faint due to age and the nature of the original stamping process.

Condition is very good overall for age, with the wrapper remaining complete and well preserved. The seams remain intact, the original closure cord is still present, and the printed markings remain clear and attractive for display. The unopened condition adds considerably to the item’s collectable appeal and is becoming increasingly difficult to find on wartime examples.

An excellent original WW2 British military medical collectable, ideal for display alongside other British Army equipment, medical items, or WW2 field gear.
