Description

An original pair of WW2-era British military vehicle goggles, complete with their original storage case. Constructed with aluminium frames, brown leather face cushions, elasticated head strap and amber-tinted lenses, these are representative of the style of protective goggles used by British military vehicle personnel during WW2.

Goggles of this type were intended to provide protection from wind, dust, debris and glare when operating open vehicles and motorcycles. Similar examples are commonly associated with dispatch riders, armoured vehicle crews and other military personnel whose duties exposed them to the elements. The amber-tinted lenses would have helped reduce glare while improving contrast in bright conditions.

Although no maker’s marks, dates or military acceptance stamps could be found on either the goggles or the storage case, both the construction and overall pattern are entirely consistent with known British WW2 military vehicle goggles. The accompanying storage case is also of a typical wartime British style and appears to have been made specifically for this pattern of goggles.

The goggles retain a very distinctive wartime appearance and display particularly well, especially when paired with the original case. They would make an excellent addition to a collection of British WW2 militaria, dispatch rider equipment, armoured vehicle memorabilia or military vehicle-related artefacts.

Overall, the goggles remain in good condition for their age, with the original storage case being a particularly desirable feature. Examples of this type are frequently found without their original case, or with cases that have been crushed, damaged or discarded over the years, making complete sets increasingly difficult to find.

There is some minor delamination to the lenses, which has been photographed for complete accuracy. The elasticated section of the head strap remains present and still retains some stretch, although it is naturally no longer at its original strength. This should be viewed in the context of an item that is now over 80 years old.

The goggles and case display very well together and remain a strong, complete wartime set.
