Description

An original WW2 German leather flare pistol signal cartridge carrying case, complete with 18 original inert German signal cartridges. Designed to carry 26.5mm signal cartridges for the standard German Leuchtpistole, these cases were an important piece of field equipment, allowing coloured smoke and signalling cartridges to be carried safely and accessed quickly when required.

This is a particularly desirable complete set, retaining its full complement of 18 original wartime cartridges in a range of colours, including red, blue and yellow smoke signal cartridges. Several cartridges retain clear printed labels and wartime dates, including examples from 1940, 1941 and 1942, adding further authenticity and interest. Complete sets such as this are becoming increasingly difficult to find, as the pouches and cartridges are so often separated over time.

The carrying case is manufactured from black pebbled leather with its original shoulder strap, steel fittings and internal divider system, all of which remain intact. The interior is configured to hold 18 cartridges securely, while the flap and twin retaining straps keep the contents protected during transport. The inside of the case bears a stamped “… N. 1928” marking. While the full stamp is now partially obscured through age and use, the 1928 marking is believed to relate to the pattern or model designation of the case rather than its date of manufacture. This is entirely consistent with German military equipment, where equipment patterns often remained in production for many years after their initial introduction. It is an interesting original marking that adds to the character and authenticity of the piece.

The leather remains in very good original condition with an attractive, honest patina acquired through age and service. The stitching is sound, the shoulder strap is complete, and all 18 internal compartments remain intact. There is expected wear to the leather closure straps together with light age-related wear and minor verdigris to some of the metal fittings, all entirely consistent with an original wartime-used item. The cartridges are inert and sold strictly as collectible display items.

Whether displayed alongside a German flare pistol or as part of a broader Wehrmacht equipment collection, this is a scarce opportunity to acquire a complete, original WW2 German flare pistol signal cartridge set that has survived together for over 80 years.
