Description

An original WW2 Home Front “Genalex” Transformer Light, complete with its original illustrated box. Specifically marketed as “The Ideal Nightlight or A.R.P. Lamp”, this is a scarce and highly collectable piece of British wartime civilian equipment, designed to provide safe, low-level illumination during the blackout.

The colourful original packaging advertises the lamp for use in halls, passages, garages, lavatories and air raid shelters, helping households maintain blackout conditions whilst still providing enough light to move around safely. It uses a 6 Volt 0.3 Amp cycle dynamo bulb, with the manufacturer claiming an approximate service life of 600 hours.

The lamp retains its original black painted finish, polished reflector, original two-pin plug and the original bulb remains fitted. The base is moulded “Made in England”, further adding to its authenticity and period appeal. Accompanying the lamp is its original Genalex branded box, featuring striking wartime artwork and advertising that makes this an excellent display piece.

This example has not been tested and is therefore being sold as a collectable display item only due to its age.

Condition is very good overall for its age. The lamp displays only light age-related wear, with the painted finish and reflector remaining in pleasing condition. The original box is complete and displays well, showing expected signs of age including edge wear, light creasing, staining and general storage wear accumulated over the past eighty years. Please refer to the photographs to judge the condition for yourself.

A wonderful and increasingly difficult-to-find piece of genuine WW2 Home Front memorabilia, ideal for collectors of Air Raid Precautions (A.R.P.), blackout equipment, vintage electrical items or British civilian wartime history.
