Description
An original WW2-era U.S. military sandbag manufactured from heavy cotton duck canvas and bearing its original printed nomenclature. Examples of this type formed an essential part of American military field engineering equipment during the war and would have been used wherever temporary defensive positions were required.
Sandbags were employed extensively for the construction of revetments, weapon pits, fortified positions and protective barriers, providing a simple but highly effective means of defence in both static and mobile operations. As a result, they became a familiar sight across virtually every theatre in which American forces served during WW2.
This example features stitched internal compartments rather than the simple open construction more commonly encountered. When filled, these sections helped the bag retain a more consistent shape, allowing for tidier stacking and greater stability when incorporated into defensive works.
The canvas remains in very good condition overall, retaining a strong olive drab colour and displaying clearly legible original markings. The bag remains empty and unfilled, making it far more practical for storage and display than examples still containing their original contents.
A genuine and increasingly scarce piece of U.S. WW2 field equipment, ideal for display alongside other American militaria, field gear or military engineering items.
