Description
An intriguing original military medical identification brassard with strong period character and excellent display appeal. Constructed in white cotton drill with an applied red cloth cross to the centre, this is an officially issued example marked to the Medical Department U.S. Army and carrying a printed reference to conformity with the Geneva Convention of 1929.
The brassard also bears a faint circular inspection or issue stamp which appears to read “Ministere De La Guerre”, alongside a serial-style issue number, adding further authenticity and period interest. Such armbands were worn by authorised medical personnel to clearly identify protected non-combatant status under the rules of war, making them an important and instantly recognisable piece of military medical history.
A highly collectable original item that displays well and fits perfectly within any WW2 U.S. Army, medic, Red Cross or military medical collection. Increasingly harder to source in original marked form, especially with clear printed U.S. Army issue text still present.
Condition is good overall for age and use, showing honest service wear, light age toning, scattered marks and some fading to the printed details as shown. The red cross remains strong and vibrant, and the brassard presents very well overall.
