Description
An original leather horseshoe wallet dating from the pre-WW2 / WW2 era. Constructed from heavy brown leather with steel buckle fittings, this well-made piece was designed to carry spare horseshoes for use in the field or stable. While unmarked, its traditional construction and materials are entirely consistent with equestrian equipment produced during the first half of the twentieth century.
Examples of this type were used to transport spare horseshoes, typically by mounted personnel or those responsible for horse care. Although this example bears no military or maker’s markings to confirm its exact origin, it would equally suit a collection of military, civilian or vintage equestrian equipment and offers an interesting opportunity for further research.
The wallet features a stitched internal retaining pocket and original leather fastening strap, allowing it to securely hold its contents when closed. The leather has developed an attractive aged patina through years of use and storage, adding to its period character.
Condition is good overall for its age. The leather remains strong and supple with honest signs of age and use, including surface wear, creasing and scuffing consistent with decades of service. The stitching appears sound, the buckle and fastening remain intact and functional, and there are no obvious repairs or significant damage. Overall, it is an attractive and displayable example of a vintage horseshoe wallet.
A fascinating piece of early twentieth-century equestrian equipment, ideal for collectors of vintage leatherwork, saddlery, horse tack or military-related field gear.
