Description
The RAF cockpit lamp MK2 5c/ 366 was designed to provide low-level illumination in the cockpit for night flying without ruining the pilot’s night vision. It was installed in Installed in WW2-era RAF aircraft such as the Spitfire, Hurricane, Lancaster, and others as well. They were powered by the aircraft’s electrical system, typically 12 or 24 volts depending on the aircraft.
Made mostly of metal, this one has the common red shroud around the bulb which preserves the pilots night vision, but still gives off enough ambient light to actually see aircraft instruments. Additionally, it can be opened and closed, but also twisted so the pilot has a choice with regard to how much light is emitted.
Obviously, being a hard wired component, the wires have been cut on this one. The shroud is still very much intact. It opens and closes perfectly, and still twists as well. The black paint has some chips but the hinge at the top still works and the baseplate still has all original markings clearly visible (see photos).
