Description

This WW2 matchbox cover which has the famous quote, “Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few” from Winston Churchill, British Prime Minister at the time. It’s metal with the celluloid covering depicting the RAF wings.

They were designed to house one standard dimension matchbox and helped to protect the matches inside during conflicts and their harsh environments so a soldier could reliably light cigarettes, lamps and stoves.

This one has some staining of the glossy celluloid covering but that is very common given the nature of the material and its age. Most of them stain over time. Every single word can be clearly read however, and the RAF logo is clearly visible.
