Description
The USAAF was the aerial warfare branch of the U.S. Army and the primary air service component during World War 2, active from 1941 to 1947.
This item was made by Bates Shoe Co. and is a ‘large’ size. It’s unlined, made from cotton and is considered a summer flying helmet. The rubberised receiver covers are in excellent condition, showing no real signs of damage. We know this is a later production model because later versions had leather reinforcement around the oxygen mask studs, which this has.
The inside of the ear cups has been hand marked “Delaney” on both sides – almost certainly naming the owner. There’s minimal use/ wear to it – but it’s clear from signs of general wear and tear it’s been used. It’s just either not been used a lot, or it’s been VERY well looked after.
