Description
An original WW1 13th Hussars commemorative tray, produced to celebrate the regiment’s distinguished service during the Great War. The tray features the regimental badge at its centre, beneath the Latin motto Viret in Aeternum (“It flourishes forever”), and is surrounded by a selection of battle honours earned during the campaigns in France and Mesopotamia between 1914 and 1919.
Among the battle honours displayed are Kut-el-Amara, Lajj, Baghdad, Diala River, Tekrit, Kulawand, Hadraniyah and Mosul, commemorating the regiment’s involvement in the Mesopotamian campaign against the Ottoman Empire. The inscription “France Mesopotamia 1914–19” beneath the badge further reflects the 13th Hussars’ wartime service across both theatres, making this an attractive piece of regimental history.
Manufactured from pressed metal with a raised decorative design, the tray would have served as a commemorative or presentation piece, likely produced shortly after WW1 for serving soldiers, veterans or regimental associations. Today, it makes an excellent display item for collectors of British cavalry memorabilia, WW1 militaria or regimental artefacts.
Condition is good overall for its age. The tray retains an attractive aged patina with areas of tarnishing, oxidation and age-related wear consistent with its period. There are no obvious cracks or repairs, and the raised details, lettering and regimental badge remain well defined despite honest signs of use and age. Please study the photographs carefully to satisfy yourself as to the condition before purchasing.
A scarce and decorative original piece of 13th Hussars regimental memorabilia, commemorating the regiment’s service in both France and Mesopotamia during WW1.
