WW1 German 84/98 Bayonet “Sawback”

SKU: 0071M

Description

The wooden grips on this WW1 German 84/98 sawback bayonet are in very good condition, showing no signs of damage and held in place with two screw bolts. The metal crossguard, flashguard and hilt do show pitting, but the flash guard is undented and the rifle retaining button is in good working order.

The metal scabbard is the correct type and you can clearly see by the condition it has always lived with the bayonet. There are four dents to the scabbard, two to the front and two to the back but this hasn’t effected the way the bayonet fits the scabbard. The scabbard does show pitting, more so to the rear than the front.

The blade shows some light pitting on the ricasso but the rest of the blade is nice and bright with the sawback teeth still being very sharp. The maker is ERFURT and dated 1915 on the spine of the blade with a W under a crown.
