WW1 German 84/98 Bayonet (Sawback)

Description

The scabbard to this German 84/98 bayonet has been painted and still has 95% of the black paint remaining.  There is a faint indentation to the rear of the scabbard but not something the eye is drawn to and I don’t think it detracts from the bayonet overall.

The rifle retaining button is in good working order and there is an inspection stamp to the rear of the top pommel. The wooden grips show some light wear but are still in good condition and are held to the tang by two screw bolts.

The sawback blade is clean and in good condition with an inspection stamp to the spine of the blade. The maker on the ricasso reads Deutshe Mashinenfabrik A.G. DUISBURG.

Sawback bayonets are not easy to come across, especially with clean blades.

This is a nice example of the 84/98 bayonet.
