WW1 German 98/05 Bayonet (Sawback)

SKU: 0041M

Added by : Mark Raynsford

Description

The sawback “Butcher”  blade is nice and bright and in superb condition.

Maker mark on the ricasso reads DURKOPP WERKE A.G. and placed in a triangle. There is also an inspection stamp on the spine of the blade.

The walnut ribbed grips are an attractive colour and also in good condition. The spring loaded button is in good working order and the inspection stamp is present to the rear of the top pommel.

The front of the scabbard is nice and straight and shows no indentations. The rear does show a couple of very small indentations and one hit just below the frog. The frog has had a small repair to the leather where it enters the lug but all stitching is still intact.

Sawback bayonets in this condition have become hard to find.
