WW1 German 98/05 Butcher Bayonet (Sawback)

SKU: 0020M

Added by : Mark Raynsford

Description

Extremely nice condition bayonet. The wooden grips are undamaged and undented. The grips have an attractive lighter colour grain than we normally see.

The hilt has the usual inspection stamp, and the spring loaded button is in good working order. The cross guard is of the later type (small ears) and comes with an undented flash guard.

The blade is extremely nice and bright with no rust or pitting. The sawback teeth are detailed and very sharp.

On the spine we see the usual inspection stamp, 1917 dated and a W under a crown for (Wilhelm 11)

The scabbard is undented and nice and straight, with an inspection stamp on the throat and the ball. Maker is WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER A.G. The metal scabbard comes in a leather sheath, this is something I’ve never seen before and I cannot guarantee this to be war time. I personally like to leave everything the way it comes to me ,but if the next owner has an issue with it, it can easily be taken off.

Blades in this condition have become hard to find. Fantastic example.
