Description
Here we have a K98 in good condition with matching numbers. The undamaged bakelite grips are in excellent condition and are held to the tang by two screw bolts. The rifle retaining button is in good working order and is waffenamt stamped. The reverse to the hilt is also double waffenamt stamped and there is no damage to the flash guard.
The blade is numbered 2882 which matches the same numbers on the scabbard. The reverse of the ricasso reads 41 fnj, this tells us it was made in 1941 by the German maker Alexander Coppel. The blade has been sharpened but also retains 90% of its original blueing.
The metal scabbard is undamaged and nice and straight. The ageing and colour of the scabbard matches the hilt and crossguard and there is another waffenamt stamp to the lower ball. The scabbard screw is missing but these can be replaced.
To finish this bayonet off it comes complete with an excellent condition frog. The leather is good with all its stitching intact and maker marked on the back.
