WW1 German S98 Peruvian Model Bayonet
SKU:
Added by : Mark Raynsford
Description
In early 1900, Peru placed an order with the German metal arms factory Simson & Co Suhl for bayonets to go onto their 1909 model rifle. This model is identical to the German S98 bayonet except for regimental markings and the Peruvian crest stamped onto the top pommel.
The wooden grips are in excellent condition and have aged into an attractive rich colour wood. The hilt fittings are in very good condition and the rifle retaining stud is in working order.
The cross guard is numbered 15011, this matches the same numbers on the upper scabbard cross guard and is something we all like to see, as it shows the two items have always lived together.
The leather scabbard shows age but no damage or shrinkage, which normally is quite common. All the stitching to the leather is still intact and the lower scabbard fitting is in perfect condition.
The blade is unsharpened and in superb condition. Maker on the ricasso reads Simson & Co Suhl.
