Description

During WW1, the Gurkhas were deployed on various fronts, including Europe, the Middle East and Gallipoli. Renowned for their bravery, toughness, and combat effectiveness, the Gurkhas left an incredible mark on “the history of warfare.”

Here we have a superb example of WW1 MK2 model Kukri knife in its original scabbard. The blade is in excellent condition, and bears several markings that tell us some information about the item. The first marking is “Co”, which tells us it was made at the “Cossipore arsenal”, more famous for its artillery pieces. The second marking “I G” indicates that the knife was issued by the Indian government. Next we have the date “1917”, with a “II” above it, this tells us its a MK2 model, and lastly we have the number “44”, which is probably the batch number.

The wooden grips are in excellent condition showing minor wear for a Kukri of this period.
The leather scabbard is also dated 1917 along with a broad arrow and “Co”. The leather does show wear, as to be expected but it does have all its stitching intact.

This is a very nice example of a WW1 Kukri knife.
