Description
An excellent condition Peruvian Model 1909 bayonet, manufactured by “Simson & Co Suhl”. These bayonets were produced under contract for the Peruvian military and are based closely on the German S/98 bayonet.
The blade retains its original bright finish and full length, with only a small couple of patches of pitting close to the tip, (see photos). The maker mark is clearly stamped on the ricasso, Simson & Co Suhl.
The wooden grip plates are in perfect condition, showing the correct nine grooves on each plate and held firmly in place by two screw bolts. The hilt has a fully functioning rifle retaining button and a cross guard that features a serial number (25385) that matches the serial number on the scabbard upper fitting. Its always a bonus to find matching numbers as it tells us the two pieces have always lived together.
The black leather scabbard remains in excellent condition, with no dents to either the top or lower steel fittings. The blade fits the scabbard perfectly, sliding in smoothly and securely as intended. Notably, the serial number on the frog stud matches the number on the crossguard (25385).
What sets this example apart is the presence of the original Peruvian national crest, crisply stamped into the pommel.
A great example.
