Description

Third Reich Period 2nd Pattern Luftwaffe Dress Dagger.

This is a very nice example of a 2nd Pattern Luftwaffe Dress Dagger featuring a stunning blade in mint condition. The blade has full cross-grain running along both sides of the blade and forms a good tip. The blade is maker-marked “WKC”, a highly respected manufacturer of dress daggers.

The celluloid grip has aged to an attractive shiny cream colour, and retains its original grip wire. The pommel is the typical WKC type, smaller than most, with a stippled background.

The dagger features a silver coloured cross-guard that nicely match’s the silver colour scabbard bands. Both cross-guard and scabbard are in good condition.

Having owned many WKC 2nd pattern Luftwaffe daggers over the years, I have observed various component variations. WKC produced their own parts in-house, with a couple of unique variations, but as the war progressed and the materials became scarce, manufacturers sourced generic parts from external suppliers.

For those interested in learning more about Luftwaffe dress daggers, I highly recommend “Exploring the Daggers of the German Luftwaffe” By Thomas T. Wittmann.
