Description
The “wartime civilian receiver” also known as the “utility set” was an affordable radio designed to a standardized specification and manufactured by various companies during World War 2. Its parts were interchangeable, making repairs straight-forward and ensuring easy availability of spares. over a quarter of a million units were produced in total.
This particular radio is in excellent condition, retaining all its original components, except for the plug, which has been removed. It features two knobs, one for volume control and another for tuning, and includes a mains on/off switch located at the rear.
There is a sticker on the top of the radio that reads “wartime civilian receiver, produced by the radio industry under government direction”, although it has become worn and is now difficult to read.
A great piece of WW2 British homefront memorabilia.
