Description

WW2 British Gas Mask Handbag.

This is a very rare and hard to find item, one of only two I’ve come across in over twenty years.

During WW2 the British Government required civilians to carry their own gas masks. While standard-issue carriers were provided, those with the means often purchased more stylish and discreet alternatives. This gas mask handbag is one such example.

The gas mask itself is in excellent condition, with no rips or tears to the rubber, and is dated 1940. The handbag has had a stitched repair to the top flap, and is missing a side flap, as shown in the photos. The two popper studs are present and in working order, along with the carrying handle.

Despite its condition, the rarity of this piece makes it highly sort after and a great piece of home front history.
