Added by : Mark Raynsford

Description

An excellent example of a WWII British MKII steel helmet, produced in the earl months of the war and used by Civil Defence personnel, likely as part of a Gas Committee or Gas Company responsible for chemical warfare response.

The helmet retains its original khaki paint, showing honest wear and patina consistent with age. The “Gas Co” stencil remains bold and legible with 95% of the paint remaining. The inside of the steel shell is marked “HBH 1939”, confirming manufacturer by Harrison Bros & Howson, Sheffield
in 1939.

The liner is in excellent condition and clearly marked with the size 7 1/4: A medium to large fit. Maker marked Vero, referring to Veron Brothers Ltd, a known helmet liner manufacturer during the interwar and early WWII period. The liner is also dated 1938.

Helmet is complete with its correct wartime spring-loaded chinstrap, securely attatched.
