Description
These are great looking, well made fighting knives that have become scarce and hard to come by. Introduced in 1915 and known in the Dutch service as the “Stormdolk” (storm dagger) and are often referred to by collectors as the Dutch Commando knife.
The rounded wooden grip is ribbed and in excellent condition, marked with a “crown/Z” inspection stamp. There are two additional “crown/Z” inspection marks, one on the metal ferrule above the crossguard and another on the blade ricasso. The bottom of the crossguard is stamped with the serial number “2547 E”. The blade, measuring the correct length of 8 inches, shows some light staining and pitting but overall is still bright and better preserved than most examples.
The leather scabbard for these knives are excellently constructed and look very impressive. This one shows service wear but is still in good condition with all its stitching and rivets intact, along with its retaining strap. The rear is marked with the serial number “7226 C”.
These fighting knives have become very popular with collectors.
