Description
A very good original example of the iconic German K98 bayonet from the Second World War.
The bayonet has undamaged bakelite grips, which are in excellent condition and secured by two screw bolts. The rifle retaining button is fully functional, with the pommel showing the usual two waffenamt acceptance stamps. The crossguard, pommel, and flashguard show the majority of its original bluing.
The blade is in very good condition, retaining over 90% of its wartime blued finish and is stamped on the ricasso “41 ddl”, confirming production in 1941 by “Josua Corts. Sohn”. The blade is unsharpened for most of it length, with only a light sharpen towards the tip, which remains sharp and well defined. The reverse side bears the serial number 6019.
The accompanying steel scabbard is in very good condition, although, does show some light indentations in places, (see photos). The scabbard retains its original throat screw and the majority of its original wartime bluing. One side of the scabbard shows the serial code “3805”, while the reverse is marked “42 ASW”, identifying the date “1942” and maker E & F Horster. There is also one other Waffenamp stamp to the lower scabbard ball.
A nice bayonet that fits the scabbard perfectly.
