Description

This is a superb example of the well-known German k98 Bayonet, produced in 1942 and maker-marked “fnj” for Alexander Coppel, Solingen.

The blade is in mint condition, retaining all of its original bluing, and is unsharpened, leading into a good sharp tip. The ricasso is clearly stamped with the date 42 and maker’s initials. The other side bears the serial number 228, which matches the the scabbard.

The handle has dark bakelite grips, that are in perfect condition and secured by two screw bolts. The rifle retaining button is fully functional with two clear Waffenamt stamps present on the pommel, as is typical on these bayonets.

The scabbard is undented and retains around 95% of its original bluing. It is also serial numbered 228, dated, and maker-marked perfectly matching the blade. The scabbard throat screw is present, and the lower ball bears another Waffenamt stamp.

The set is complete with a correct wartime leather frog. The frog shows service wear, including a split where it passes over the scabbard lug, but the stitching remains intact and strong, with all rivets present.

Overall, this is an excellent k98 bayonet, with a mint blade that fits the scabbard perfectly.
