Description

A good honest example of a WW2 German K98 bayonet, produced by Carl Eichhorn and dated 1943. This piece stands out for its near mint, unsharpened blade, which have become increasingly difficult to find. Although not matching, the bayonet and scabbard show consistent age and wear, suggesting they have been together for a very long period. An honest, untouched k98 bayonet.

Blade
The blade is undoubtedly the highlight here — a near mint, unsharpened example with a clean edge and a sharp, well-defined tip. The blade shows typical late-war machining marks, lacking the smoother finish seen on earlier pieces. The ricasso is stamped 0185, with COF and 43 on the reverse, confirming manufacture by Carl Eichhorn in 1943. A superb original blade with no signs of post-service sharpening.

Hilt & Grips
Fitted with original wooden grips showing light, honest wear but no damage. The original two screw bolts are present and secure. The crossguard remains undented, and the rifle retaining button is fully functional. Two Waffenamt stamps are visible to the pommel.
The metal fittings remain untouched, showing even age-related wear and light surface rust consistent with long-term storage.

Scabbard
A straight, undented scabbard retaining good shape. The wear and surface rust match the hilt and crossguard, which is always good to see. The front is stamped 9708, while the reverse shows 41 and ASW, indicating production by E. & F. Hörster in 1941.
A Waffenamt stamp is present to the lower ball. The throat screw is missing, though not immediately noticeable, especially when paired with a frog.

Frog
A good, solid original frog with strong leather. All stitching remains intact, and the four original rivets are present and firm. It shows honest wear, matching the bayonet and scabbard well, with a clear impression where it has sat against the scabbard over time.

Overall
A very decent K98 bayonet, driven by its near mint, unsharpened blade.

Historical Note
The K98 bayonet was the standard issue edged weapon for German forces during WW2, issued alongside the Karabiner 98k rifle. By 1943, production had shifted towards speed and efficiency, often resulting in more utilitarian finishes.
Carl Eichhorn was one of the major producers of edged weapons during the Third Reich, known for maintaining solid manufacturing standards.
Examples retaining near mint, unsharpened blades are becoming increasingly scarce, making pieces like this particularly appealing to collectors.
