WW2 German Leather K98 Bayonet Frog – Max Koberstein – 1936

SKU: 0329M

Added by : Mark Raynsford

Description

A solid, early-dated WWII German K98 bayonet frog, clearly maker-marked Max Koberstein, Landsberg am Warthe, and dated 1936. Early frogs with readable maker marks are not always seen, as most surviving examples show worn or faint stamps. This one retains most of its original markings.

Leather

The leather remains strong, firm, and supple with no rips or tears. It shows honest wear consistent with early service use. A very small section of stitching is missing on the rear, but it does not affect structure or function. The frog retains good rigidity throughout.

Rivets & Stitching

Fitted with four original aluminium rivets, all undisturbed. The stitching is 95% intact aside from the minor loss mentioned above. No repairs or restitching — a genuinely untouched example.

Overall

A very respectable 1936-dated frog with clear maker details, strong leather, and no damage. A decent example making this Ideal for pairing with an early K98 bayonet.

For collectors wishing to study German bayonet frogs in greater depth — maker variations, construction differences, regional patterns and wartime changes — I highly recommend Roy Williams – A Collector’s Guide to German Bayonet Belt Frogs 1825–1945. It remains the most complete reference available, with clear photographs and excellent coverage of all frog types.
