Description
Here we have a transitional SA dagger in superb condition.
The transitional period of SA daggers started from around 1935/1936. During this time there were changes in manufacturing standards and materials. The earliest S.A. daggers came with higher quality solid nickle fittings and anodised scabbards, where as later made S.A. daggers came with painted scabbards, nickle plated fittings and the RZM logo on the blade. During this change over period we encounter S.A. daggers that have traits from both early and later materials.
This S.A. dagger comes with solid nickle fittings apart from the top crossguard which is nickle plated. The wooden grip is undamaged with a solid nickle eagle nicely placed in the centre of the grip, along with an S.A. enamel rune.
The blade is absolutely stunning with full cross grain running the full length of the blade on both sides. Being a transitional piece we see that it has the Eickhorn trade mark along with a RZM logo. The scabbard is undamaged and has 99% of its original dark brown paint still remaining. The dagger fits the scabbard perfectly with a nice snug fit.
This really is a great example of a mid period transitional S.A. dagger.
