Here we have a very good original WW2 German Wehrmacht canteen, complete with its field wool cover, leather harness, and aluminium screw-top lid with chain retainer.

This aluminium canteen retains its full wartime felt covering, which is in good condition, showing field use, but no major wear. The felt retains its five original popper studs, which is nice to see, as some are often missing.

The leather harness is complete, including all cross straps and buckles. The leather does show age, but is still strong, with all stitching intact. The aluminium screw top cap is original and functional, with its retaining chain still attatched, a further desirable feature on these early examples.

Historical Note:

These canteens were standard issue to German troops during WW2, designed for rugged front-line use. The materials evolved throughout the war, beginning with higher-quality, such as aluminium and felt, before later switching to pressed fibre and steel as shortages deepened.
