WW2 Japanese Type 30 Bayonet Frog – Late-War Economy Production

SKU: 0466M

Added by : Mark Raynsford

Description

An original WWII Japanese Type 30 bayonet frog of the late-war economy pattern. This is a particularly good example, showing considerably less cracking and creasing than is often seen on these late-war frogs.

The frog remains complete, with the stitching, rivets, steel buckle and leather fittings all present.

Construction

The frog is made from heavy leather using the simplified construction associated with late-war Japanese production. Unlike some examples, there is no canvas reinforcement visible inside the leather on this frog.

The two openings through the main body remain intact, with no splits running out from the edges.

Leather & Stitching

The leather remains extremely stiff and has retained a good overall surface. There is age-related wear and some light surface cracking, particularly around the curved front section, but the main body remains in very good condition for the type.

The stitching running down both sides is intact and the construction remains tight. The rear stitching and securing rivets are also present.

Buckle, Strap & Rivets

The original square steel buckle remains fitted.

Importantly, the small leather retaining strap around the buckle is still complete and intact. This is an area commonly found split or broken on surviving examples. The surrounding leather is also in good condition and the strap remains firmly attached.

All visible rivets remain present and secure.

Overall

A very good example of a late-war Japanese Type 30 bayonet frog, with strong, stiff leather, intact stitching and complete fittings. The intact leather strap around the buckle is a particularly good feature, as this area is often found damaged or broken.

A good original frog for completing a late-war Japanese Type 30 bayonet.

Historical Note / Reference

During the later stages of the Second World War, shortages of materials led to increasingly simplified Japanese military equipment. Type 30 bayonet frogs produced during this period can show variations in leather quality, fittings and construction compared with earlier examples.
