WW1 German Boot Knife

Description
A genuine First World War era German private-purchase fighting knife, often referred to by collectors as a “boot knife.” These non-regulation knives were commercially produced and widely carried by German soldiers, purchased privately rather than officially issued.
Blade
Plain, unmarked steel blade with no inspection or acceptance stamp present, as commonly encountered on privately purchased examples. The blade remains clean with a well-defined profile and pointed tip, showing light age toning consistent with wartime manufacture and long-term storage. There is no evidence of grinding, reshaping, or later interference.
Hilt & Grips
Wooden grip scales are intact and secure, showing honest handling wear but no cracks or damage. The grooved grip profile remains clearly defined. The simple steel crossguard is firm and undisturbed, fitting tightly to the blade.
Scabbard
Original steel scabbard retaining a good amount of its original blackened factory finish. The body remains straight, with no dents or crushing. Wear to the finish is consistent with age and use.
Leather & Suspension
Original leather belt loop and retention strap remain present. The leather shows age and wear but remains strong and supple. The press-stud fastener is intact and fully functional, which is not always encountered on surviving examples and is a genuine plus point.
Overall
A solid, honest WWI German private-purchase fighting knife, offered without exaggeration. An authentic trench-era piece retaining original components throughout and presenting exactly as a privately carried wartime knife should.
