Description
Here we have one of the rarer type gas masks that are not seen to often.
The invalid respirator, also referred to as the “invalid helmet” was an unusual respirator for people with an illness or injury that prevented the use of a regular respirator. These rare gas masks always come dated Feb 1941 on the inside, and also dated 1940 on the outside metal ring of the lens with a manufacturers stamp of H&L. The filter on these masks are the bellows type and are the same filter we see on the British baby gas masks.
In one of the photos you see three air raid wardens wearing this type gas mask during a mock gas attack in which tear gas was released on Esher High Street, Surrey 5th April 1941.
This rare gas mask is in very good condition and a must for any serious gas mask collector.
